Why change the high point system?

with one comment

Whisenhunt (VC Star) has a column in which he advocates a change in the high point system to reflect “quality over quantity”.   It seems to me that we should recognize both.  Out Patient won the 2010 season by WINNING more races, and not just the ones that Whisenhunt deems important.  Whisenhunt conveniently omits this fact.

I think that the high point system is fine as it is.  If  someone wants to reward the top ten races winner, that’s fine too.  The more trophies, the better.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with this post. If this is the new “system” then Whisenhunt needs to change the name of the trophy. A true “High Points” trophy should go to the racers earning the most points, not the most points in a selected few races. Call it the “Best 10” or something else, because it’s no longer a “High Points” trophy.

The idea of an additional trophy may satisfy the so-called emphasis on “quality” (a dubious distinction at best that, as Whisenhunt’s article states, will help a couple of boats from his club).
